Coming to a Close

Sunrise near Ashton
With my internship coming to an end, here is my final blog post.
At the beginning of the summer, my internship mentor and I made a list of the specific goals I had for the internship. The main goal I had was to take as many opportunities as I possibly could so that I could learn as much as possible. I jumped at every chance I could to try something new and I feel like I was able to experience quite a few new things.

Fence Maintenance
Some of the things that I was able to do included Morning Bites, volunteering with the DEQ for well sampling and testing, helping with reservoir sampling, cleaning the fish ladder at the Chester Dam, riparian fence maintenance, helping with fundraising, working on a GIS project, and many other things. One thing I really loved was getting to watch the seasons change while I was out fencing. Different wildflowers bloomed every other week and I slowly watched summer turn to fall.

Another goal I set was to work on my public speaking. My public speaking skills have really improved over the past few months. Through the Morning Bites Program, I have been able to push myself out of my comfort zone and work really hard on my people skills. I feel so much for confident with approaching people and speaking with them. This will be a skill that I can use for the rest of my life and I am really grateful I was able to utilize the opportunity.

Overall I have enjoyed my internship. It was fun to learn new things and push myself out of my comfort zone. I met a lot of really great people and I am grateful for this opportunity that I had. While I am sad to see it come to an end, I am excited to see what's next for me in the future!
